Ozanam Industries, West Ryde – Refurbishment of St Vincent de Paul Premises

PBG was appointed by Altus Page Kirkland on behalf of St Vincent de Paul to undertake the refurbishment of Ozanam Industries, 81-87 Ryedale Road, West Ryde. The works included the refurbishment of the existing warehouse into two separate sections (the warehouse and packing area), and a new entry off Ryedale Lane with a lobby into the packing area together with new offices. The addition of new toilets to the western end of the warehouse involved demolishing the existing toilets and underpinning the existing footings. Works also included the addition of a new lift to connect the two levels, the refurbishment and extension of the upper level to provide a new meals room, additional toilets and conference room and the replacement of the existing asbestos-contaminated roof over the warehouse to suit the operational requirements of the warehouse.

The University of Sydney - Refurbishment of the Quadrangle Building

 Winner of the Heritage Award in the Master Builders Association Excellence in Construction Awards 2011

PBG was appointed as the head contractor to undertake the internal refurbishment of lecture halls and teaching spaces within the main University Quadrangle.  The works involved the refurbishment of the old rooms to maintain quality teaching spaces taking into account the heritage listing on the buildings; providing the latest architectural and audio visual features to enhance teaching and to meet BCA compliance and improve OHS without altering the heritage aspects of the building.

The University of Sydney Eye Hospital - Refurbishment of Laboratory

PBG was appointed by the University of Sydney as head contractor to undertake the demolition of existing offices at the heritage listed Sydney Eye Hospital and the refurbishment of the lower floor area into research space; the construction of a mezzanine with open plan space and offices and the fitout of PC2 laboratories.  The refurbishment provides a mezzanine with an open plan area for post graduates and offices for staff.  The larger lower floor area provides lab benches, a separate histology lab and a separate electro physiology lab.

The University of New England - refurbishment of the Agronomy Building

PBG was appointed as the head contractor to undertake the alteration and refurbishment of the first floor of the Agronomy building W023 at The University of New England. Our role involved the demolition of the existing interior and the fitout of PC2 laboratories for Climate Change research.

The University of New South Wales – alterations and refurbishment of Squarehouse FBE workshop

PBG was engaged as head contractor to undertake the alterations and refurbishment to the Squarehouse FBE Workshop (Faculty of Built Environment) at the University of New South Wales. These works involved the demolition of the internal areas of the existing Squarehouse, the internal refurbishment including, new walls, ceilings, floors, display cabinets, joinery, services for the new machinery layout. Total area of works was 1300m2. The contract also included the removal of the plant and machinery from the existing building and relocate, connect, test and commission in their new location in the Squarehouse Building.

The University of New South Wales – Refurbishment of Applied Science Building

PBG was appointed as the head contractor for The Food Science and Technology Consolidation Project in the Applied Science Building F10 at The University of New South Wales. The project consisted of part demolition, construction and fitout to Levels 1, 2, 3, 5, 8 and 9 within an occupied 10-storey building.

The new works involved the construction of membrane fabrication rooms, membrane laboratories, analytical laboratories, offices, computer rooms, PC1 laboratories (350m2), PC2 laboratory to Level 8 (173m2), walk-in freezers and cold rooms, AQIS laboratory, tissue culture laboratory, thermalphysic laboratory and teaching laboratories.

Completed construction of the building totalled $7.1 million.

The University of Newcastle, Refurbishment of the Huxley Library and Hunter Learning Spaces

PBG was appointed by The University of Newcastle as head contractor to undertake the refurbishment of the Huxley Library and Hunter Learning Spaces at their Callaghan Campus. Our work involved the creation of a student information common area within the Huxley Library and the refurbishment of existing teaching and learning spaces in the Hunter Building (Hunter Learning Spaces).

The University of Newcastle – refurbishment of laboratory and office in Medical Science Building

PBG was appointed as the contractor to undertake the PC2 laboratory & office refurbishment to Level 6 of the Medical Science Building at the University of Newcastle. The works involved the demolition of existing offices and the construction PC2 laboratories, darkrooms, behavioural suite, anteroom, holding rooms, tissue culture room, developing room, wash up areas and offices on Level 6 of the Medical Sciences Building. The works required extensive co-ordination between services, equipment and joinery.

The University of Sydney - refurbishment of student spaces and laboratories in the Merewether Building

PBG was appointed as the head contractor to undertake the refurbishment of student spaces and laboratories in the Merewether Building at the University of Sydney. Our work involves the demolition of existing walls and the construction of new partition walls, the installation of mechanical, electrical and AV equipment and joinery for new workstations, painting and lighting.

The University of New England – Refurbishment of Mary White College Blocks

Patterson Group Pty Limited was appointed by the University of New England as head contractor to undertake the Refurbishment of the Mary White College Blocks at its Armidale Campus. The project involved the removal of all asbestos within three accommodation blocks and the complete internal demolition and refurbishment of three blocks to BCA standard and living arrangements required by the occupants. Block 4’s refurbishment involved the remediation of an external wall tanking system, and the removal and replacement of the timber flooring on the lower level.

The University of New South Wales – refurbishment and alterations of teaching laboratories School of Medical Science

PBG was engaged to undertake the refurbishment and alterations of two teaching laboratories at the School of Medical Sciences at the Kensington Campus of The University of New South Wales. Comprising two floors, the works involved the demolition of existing offices, ceiling and floor finishes and the fitout of Ground Floor offices, Ground Floor Teaching Laboratories and Level 2 Teaching Laboratories. The works involved extensive co-ordination between services, equipment and joinery. The project was successfully completed within the programme period of 12 weeks.

The University of Sydney – Refurbishment of Building G08 Biological Building, Office and Laboratory Upgrade

PBG was appointed by The University of Sydney to undertake the internal refurbishment of the G08 Building to create PC2 standard laboratories and office areas. The works included a new printing and equipment room on the Level 5 stair landing, laboratories to PC2 standard, riser work, and extensive mechanical services upgrade to Levels 4, 5, 7 and 8 including a new chiller and cooling tower.

The University of Sydney – Low and High Voltage Electrical Upgrades at the Camden Campus

Patterson Building Group Pty Limited was appointed as the head contractor to undertake both the low and high voltage electrical works (two separate projects) at the Camden Campus for the University of Sydney.  The project involves the connection of two networks, the deletion of a redundant pad mounted substation and the connection of a research unit to the mounted substation.

The University of Sydney – refurbishment of new soft materials and biophysical laboratory

PBG was appointed as the head contractor by The University of Sydney for the refurbishment and fitout of new soft material and biophysical laboratories on Level 3 of the School of Chemistry Building. The works involve the refurbishment of three areas for the purposes of compliance with AS/NZS2243.3-2002 and involve the complete fitout of new laboratories including demolition, finishes, joinery, fume cupboards and services and installation of mechanical services. The total area is approximately 370m².

The University of Sydney - refurbishment of the Holme Building

PBG was appointed as head contractor by The University of Sydney to undertake the design and construct refurbishment of Level 4 of the Holme Building.  Our work included the demolition and strip out of the existing 160m2 area and the fitout of new partitions, floor finishes, installation of new workstations and joinery, the upgrade of existing electrical services including power, data and the installation of new air conditioning units.  This new facility will accommodate more workspaces and temporary accommodation for extra staff currently occupied by the University Student Union Venue Collection Offices.

The University of Sydney – Upgrade of the Carslaw Building

PBG undertook the upgrade of the Carslaw building at The University of Sydney. Our work involved four projects within the Carslaw building including the refurbishment of the former library space on Level 8 into a mixed use space by for postgraduates, the upgrade of computing laboratories on Level 7, the upgrade of the Biology laboratories to PC2 standard, and the combination of three separate spaces into one refurbished space to provide office accommodation.

PBG accelerated the programme to enable early handover of Levels 3 and 7 in order to have the teaching areas (PC2 laboratories) ready for students by 2 March 2009. The project was thus completed ahead of schedule within two months, much to the satisfaction of The University of Sydney.

Macquarie University – internal fitout of Unicom credit union

PBG was engaged to demolish existing offices and glazed walls to provide a suitable retail space including the construction of new shop fronts, new services and internal works.  The works was successfully completed within the contract period and the client is delighted with their new outlet.  Patterson Building Group also project managed the DA, CC and Occupation Certificate process for the client including controlling the extensive approval process with Macquarie University’s Building & Grounds Security Division to enable an ATM to be located within the new branch outlet.

The University of New South Wales - refurbishment of existing Medical Research Building and laboratories at St George Hospital

PBG was engaged on behalf of UNSW to undertake the refurbishment of an existing ground floor medical research building for UNSW BRC and St George Hospital.  The works involved stripping existing internal walls and replacing with heavy duty metal stud, 13mm plasterboard including insulation; the installation of the mechanical services which utilises a system capable of providing 100% outside air; provision of a PC2 lab, autopsy room and two surgeries with pre-op and post-op facilities.

The University of Sydney – Design and Construction of a commercial kitchen at the Camden Campus

Patterson Building Group Pty Limited is currently appointed by The University of Sydney as head contractor to undertake the design and construction of student accommodation at their Camden Campus.  Part of this work involved the design and construction of a semi commercial kitchen for student use at nearby colleges.  





PBG’s brief was to consult with the Operations Manager and determine the scope, undertake the design, obtain sign off on the design and construct the works within 6 weeks from the direction received by USYD.  This was achieved within time and the budget set by the USYD.  The works involved full strip out of existing commercial kitchen, new hydraulic services and grease trap, modify and provide new electrical circuits, install new ceiling lights and fans, new mechanical services and exhaust hood, new wall and floor finishes, new and modified stainless steel joinery, student lockers, painting, test & commissioning.   This project was an excellent outcome to all stakeholders.


The University of Sydney – Design and Construction of Student Accommodation at Camden Campus

The University of Sydney appointed PBG as the head contractor to undertake the design and construction of student accommodation at their Camden Campus. PBG led a significant buildability review of the approved development application design. PBG retained the approved floor layouts and provided alternative designs to floor levels, flooring systems, wall cladding systems and wall and roof framing systems to produce significant cost savings to the client (20% of construction budget), which enabled the project to proceed.

PBG's design management included engagement, co-ordination and liaison with all consultants to ensure the design was completed on programme. The project delivered 14 duplex houses for student accommodation with five bedrooms each, giving a total of 70 beds. The works included augmentation of existing infrastructure, new build construction, civil works, car parking, pedestrian paths and landscaping in an active student accommodation area of the campus.

The University of Sydney – refurbishment of Electrical Engineering Building

PBG was appointed by The University of Sydney as the head contractor to undertake the construction of a research and teaching facility for Power Engineering. The works will be carried out on levels 2 & 3 of the Electrical Engineering Building JO3. The refurbishment works include the demolition of existing facades, masonry internal walls, floor finishes, fixtures and overhead crane. The new works involve structural works to the existing walls to enable windows and roller shutters to be installed, extensive services, new ceilings and wall systems, floor finishes and extensive joinery suitable for the specific electrical engineering teaching spaces.

The University of Western Sydney - Refurbishment Building BB Lecture Theatre

PBG was appointed by The University of Western Sydney as head contractor to undertake the upgrade to Building BB at the Penrith Campus.  Our work involved completing remediation works and structural rectification works to a four storey concrete frame structure with a gross floor area of 5490m².

Coogee Surf Club – Alterations and additions

PBG was appointed by Randwick City Council to undertake the alternations and additions to the western side of the Coogee Surf Club building. Our work included the construction of stairs, walls, footpath, roofing, upgrading the building entrance and associated works. Our work was undertaken whilst the club was operating.

The Univeristy of Sydney - Design and Construction of Student Accommodation at the Kingswood Campus

PBG was appointed by The University of Sydney as head contractor to undertake the design and construction of student accommodation at their Kingswood Campus.  Comprising 44 rooms, our involvement in the project included improving student security to achieve BCA compliance; the strip out and refurbishment of individual units including mechanical, hydraulic services and in the installation of new kitchens, bathrooms, fixtures and fittings.  PBG undertook this in an occupied environment , providing buildability input for the proposed design, ensuring services, structure, reflected ceiling plans, risers and ducts are co-ordinated and liaised with all consultants as necessary to ensure the refurbishment was completed on programme to meet the needs of the students.

The University of Sydney – refurbishment of Mackintosh Medical Anatomy tutorial rooms

PBG was appointed as the head contractor to undertake the internal refurbishment of the Mackintosh Medical Anatomy tutorial rooms at the University of Sydney. Our role involved the demolition of a series of seven existing medical storage and educational teaching spaces, and replace with a single Physical Containment Level 1 Anatomy teaching laboratory space. The area is segmented into an entrance/wet area and the main laboratory space.

The University of Sydney - Refurbishment of levels 1 and 2 of Edward Ford Building

PBG was appointed as the head contractor to undertake the upgrade and refurbishment of various rooms and offices on levels 1 and 2 of the Edward Ford Building A27 of The University of Sydney. Our work included the demolition of existing offices, and the fitout of new partitions, floor finishes, installation of new workstations and joinery, the relocation of existing furniture, the upgrade of existing electrical services including power and data and the installation of new air conditioning units.
